Job Introduction

Landmarc Support Services are currently looking to recruit a Forestry Works Manager to join the team at Longmoor Camp in Liss, Hampshire. Working as part of the South East and East Region Rural Teams, this person will be managing contracts for timber harvesting, site restoration, preparation and restocking, the establishment of new plantations, tree safety works and ash dieback operations.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of deliver the NEC3 / NEC4 process to procure and manage contracts for the delivery of a range of forestry tasks including harvesting, reinstatement, restocking, tree planting and woodland creation
  • Supervise forestry workers and contractors in the field regarding compliance with statutory, mandatory and contractual obligations; communicating with main contractors and subcontracting companies. Take corrective action or provide advice as appropriate
  • Ensure forest operations are carried out to professional health and safety standards, discharging the duty of care in all respects, carry out Pre-commencement meetings, site visits and keep accurate records
  • Provide support regarding tree safety, tree hazard assessment and the ash dieback programme
  • Undertake Operational Site Assessment and Risk Assessment to minimise risks of forestry operations on safety and the historic and natural environment.
  • Add value to the Additional Works Team, contributing to audit, collaborative meetings
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation and other developments in the industry. A good knowledge of FISA guidance, Forestry Commission Practice Notes and other industry standards is vital
  • Maintain, good forest practice within Landmarc and supply chain
  • Provide HO Forestry & Arboriculture Adviser with region-specific input in the planning and implementation of annual work programmes and ensure the effective use of resources to meet the current objectives of the forest area

The Ideal Candidate

 

You will ideally have two years of working knowledge of the Forest Works Manager role in an operational context

Demonstrate an understanding of the main forestry operations and the controls needed to protect people and the environment

Working knowledge of preparing and delivering UK Forestry Standard compliant woodland management plans

Have experience working in team situations and demonstrate an ability to effectively manage people and cope with challenging situations to get the best results for all concerned

Be proficient in using Microsoft Office packages and GIS

FdSc in Forestry or Woodland Management, BSc in Forestry or Woodland Management

Membership of, or working to membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF)
