Job Introduction

Due to internal promotion, Landmarc Support Services is currently seeking to recruit a Rural Team Leader based at West Tofts Camp near Thetford (IP26 5EP).

As the Rural Team Leader, you will be responsible for managing a small team of operatives that collectively manage 9010ha of Breckland estate, a majority of which is SSSI, SPA and SAC whilst providing support to the defence training estate.

The Defence Training Estate supports a unique ecological resource and provides habitats for both common and rare species which would otherwise have disappeared had the land been under other forms of non-military management such as intensive agriculture. This resource is of national and international importance.

We are looking for someone who is knowledgeable and passionate about ecology and working outdoors in a rural environment. Our rural team work to maintain the estate with conservation projects such as; habitat management and restoration, woodland management, looking after water ways (reed clearance) through to basic tree ID to ensure species such as bats, badgers and great crested newts are protected.

This role is based on a permanent contract, covering 37 hours per week, this will include some weekends, a Variable Days Allowance has been provided to reflect this.

Main Responsibilities

Responsible for co-ordinating your team as their line manager, being the first point of contact for task allocation, and work checking

Be part of the team and not just a leader. 80% of the role will be working alongside your team

Maintaining stock level and management of plant and machinery

Fencing and Track repairs

Rural, forestry and arborical works

Driving and operating fleet vehicles, plant and machinery

Undertaking annual Rural Estate task scheduling

Responding to reactive work orders

The Ideal Candidate

Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety, manual handling, risk assessments, and safe systems of work

Excellent communicator with people on all levels

Previous working knowledge of estate services and maintenance

Be comfortable with working outdoors in all weather conditions

Ability to operate plant machinery (qualifications held desirable)

Basic IT skills with ability to use databases and Microsoft Office

Prepared to undertake further training

Have completed a basic tree inspectors course (desirable)

Must hold a full valid UK driving licence (essential)

Hold valid tickets for Lantra or city and guilds qualifications such as tractor, chainsaw, pole pruner, strimmer, 4x4 off road (desirable)
